Spirit Week at LOJ

Dear Students,

Next week will be our second and last Spirit Week here at LOJ.  It's time to think back to special memories or events from our last Spirit Week in October of 2012, as well as our expectations for this next Spirit Week (2/11 - 2/15).

Our last Spirit Week in October included:
  • Sports Day
  • Bright Color Day
  • Halloween
  • PJ Day

Spirit Week Days next week will be:
  • Monday, Feb. 11 – Lazy Day (any comfy clothes will do!)
  • Tuesday, Feb.12 – Decades Day: 6th Grade in 60’s Gear, 7th in 70’s and 8th in 80’s
  • Wednesday, Feb.13 – Hawaiian Day (Appropriate dress!)
  • Thursday, Feb.14 – Red, White and Pink Day
  • Friday, Feb.15 – Formal Friday (dress nicely)

Write a 5 + sentence paragraph response on what was your favorite Spirit day back in October and why.  Then share what you are looking forward to for next week and why.  Make sure to include details about clothing, costumes and people.  Don’t forget grammar counts!  Avoid using abbreviations and capitalize proper nouns!

Please end with your first and last name and period!  No name = No credit!

  1. Not only is it fun for me to participate in Spirit Week, it is also fun for me to see what other people wear and how they enjoy thmselves. My favorite day of last Spirit Week was when everyone wore their halloween costumes. It was entertaining to see new costumes every time I walked into a different class. I am very excited for lazy day next Monday. I don't ever get to just throw on sweats and head off to school! I hope people will dress with enthusiasm and spunk on Decades Day because it will be fun to see all the costumes and different perspectives!

  2. Dear Students,

While PJ day is always a favorite of mine, I really enjoyed seeing so many staff and students dressed up for Halloween. The day felt so festive, and it was fun to see the diversity of costumes. It is always a highlight for me!

Now when I looked toward next week, I am pondering what to wear Tuesday for decade day. What immediately comes to mind when I think of the 1970s is DISCO. This could be scary! Are any guy planning to dress like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever or any girls like Farah Faucett in Charlie's Angels?

Welcome to the 70's! Make sure to show your LOJ spirit!

    Best wishes,
    Mrs. Allan

  3. Last time we had spirit week in October, I had fun seeing all the people in their Halloween costumes. I got to see how people were creative in choosing their costumes, and it was exciting to see the wide variety as well! I am very excited for 'Decades Day' and Valentines Day. I think it will be exciting to see all the different perspectives of the '70's and how people dress up for both 'Decades Day', but also Valentines day. Aren't you?

    Peace, (70's!)

  4. Spirit week last October was fun, but a number of seventh graders chose not to participate. This time, I think, they will. And, despite that portion, there were many awesome outfits besides. Pajama day was one of my personal favorites. And in the upcoming Spirit week, I look forward to Lazy Day and Valentine’s Day.

This is going to be epic!

  5. Last spirit week which was last October I really enjoyed pajama day. But not very many people dressed in their pajamas though. This spirit week I’m looking forward to lazy day and Valentine’s Day. I'm also looking forward to be seeing what other people are going to wear.I hope everyone participates in next week’s spirit week.

  6. Spirit week was very enjoyable last October. My favorite day last time was Halloween day. It was fun seeing the variety of costumes the students and staff were in. This time I am looking forward to lazy day and the seeing what people will come dressed in on Decades Day. I can't wait for Spirit Week.

  7. Last Spirit week was a blast! Sports day was my overall favorite for two reasons.
You get to cheer on your favorite sports team, and you get to see which sports teams everyone else likes. Next week’s spirit is seems to be filled with even more promise as there is a Lazy Day! I also believe that Decades Day will be interesting because of the different time periods of the costumes. I hope that even the teachers get into the spirit!
    I can’t wait!

  8. Last time in October, Halloween day was my favorite. Some people took their costumes to the next level. While others, particularly boys did whatever they could to find something from their sister’s dress-up box. The navigator teachers also did their share by dressing as angry birds. It was hilarious to see the teachers looking like kids, especially Mr. Rodegerdts. Now in February, I am looking forward to Hawaiian day. I am not going to say who, but some of my friends are planning to wear grass skirts and all, unless of course, they wimp out. I plan to stay a little more low key, wearing a normal Hawaiian golf shirt. This February Spirit week should be a blast!

  9. My favorite sprit day in October was Halloween.
I enjoyed seeing the teachers in their Halloween costumes.
This was also the day of the dress rehearsal for the fall play The Odyssey, so I got to see the costumes of the cast as well.
I cannot wait to see what people wear for Decades Tuesday and FORMAL Friday.
It is fun to see all the different spirit clothes.

  10. The last spirit week we had was very fun and I enjoyed it a ton! Although, my favorite day was Halloween, and that is because we were able to see each other in our funny costumes. The reason I enjoyed seeing everyone in our costumes is because most were very fun and some contained some of my very favorite things to do! Now, on the new spirit week, I can not wait for Decades Tuesday because that will be like the Halloween, very funny and great costumes!

  11. Last spirit week I really enjoyed seeing everyone's creative costumes. My favorite day, however, was bright colors day because I saw how much it brightened up the school! My friends and I all got together the day before to pick out our outfits. Once we got our outfits picked out we tried them on and took A LOT of pictures. I'm most excited for Lazy Day because I get to just crawl out of bed and go to school. I also am looking forward to Formal Friday because I am excited to wear my formal clothes, but I am also excited for the mixer!

Now in February, im looking forward to formal Friday because I love to wear dresses. Also because the mixer will be on that day, and I always have a blast with that.

  13. I thought that the last spirit week was really fun! My favorite day was Halloween because it was really fun to see all of the costumes! Most of the people in 7th grade dressed up, and all of the costumes were so different! I also thought that it was cool how the teachers dressed up too. The day that I am most excited about next week is 'Decades Day', because seeing all of the 7th graders in 70's costumes will be really funny! I am also looking forward to the mixer on Friday.

  14. Last spirit week was fun. Halloween Day was my favorite day because there was a variety of costumes. I especially liked the staff's costumes. I will be looking forward to Hawaiian Day because I will be able to bring a pineapple to school! The mixer will also be enjoyable.

  15. Dear Mrs Allan,
Spirit week is here again! Its is like a holiday.I am looking for all the kids looking weird.I also look forward to the mixer, it is a time to let all the homework and things be forgotten for now. The last spirit week was pretty fun but I think, it could have been better. Mrs.Steele's outfit was the best. Yours too Mrs Allan.

  16. Spirit week, one of the most hilarious weeks of all. Last October, our spirit week was kind of bland considering the attendance count, but this spirit week I trust that more people will actually dress up and become less shy. The last spirit week, my favorite day was probably Halloween day, because it was fun seeing my classmates donning their halloween costumes. This time around, I am looking forward to decades day, and seeing the wacky things people come up with.

  17. I enjoyed neon day last October. Everyone was in bright colors and it was a colorful sight to see. I look forward to Lazy day when I can come to school and not try hard to get work done. I can wear some pajamas and slippers and make up for pajama day that I missed in October. I also look forward to red white and pink day to wear Valentine’s Day colors and give my friends valentines. But I mostly look forward to people and what their interpretation on decade’s day is.

  18. I enjoyed looking at everybody around me expressing themselves in all sorts of ways during spirit week last October. My favorite day was Halloween. I liked it the most because there was such a wide range of costumes, from funny ones to scary ones. The day I am most excited for this coming week is going to be Formal Friday. I am most excited because I remember from when I was very young; I loved dressing up in nice clothes. I had a special event in 3rd grade; I got a formal watch that I was going to wear to the special event. I wore it proudly, but sadly it is out of battery and I haven’t fixed it since.

  19. Last spirit week was so much fun! I loved PJ day because then you could just fall out of bed and go to school. Halloween was also fun, seeing everyone in their costumes so I can't wait to see what us 7th graders do for the 70s. I will also try to sneak down to the 6th and 8th grade halls to see what they look like. But let's not forget Valentines Day! I just can't wait! Next week is sure to be a blast!

  20. My favorite spirit day last year was the Halloween day. All the teachers wore costumes. The teachers wore Angry Birds costumes and dressed up like kids. Only a few students wore costumes. They had original costumes and they were clever. Next week I am looking forward to the lazy day. It will be fun to see what outfits people wear. Maybe next week’s spirit days will be as good as October’s. Hawaiian day will also be interesting to see what people will do or how they will act for the day. The might wear Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts.

  21. Last spirit week I loved Halloween day because of all of the shocking and creative ideas people had come up with that day. Many students had very different and unique costumes and did great on their costumes detail to. This month however, I am looking forward greatly to formal day believe it or not. The reason why is my Halloween costume was a formal man but I never got to wear it on Halloween day so this time I'm getting another chance this week! I'm also considering something interesting for decades day...

  22. I don’t really enjoy spirit week, I find dressing up for it embarrassing. I do get joy however from seeing all the funny outfits that people with no self respect wear especially the teachers. Last time it was fun to see all the costumes for Halloween. This time I think that the most amusing will be decades day and Hawaiian day.

  23. My favorite spirit week was the neon colors because alot of us wore differente colors and it looked cool together. I dont realy care about spirit week though. I dont realy care because someone always treets everyday like spirit day. Walking down the hallway you see someone wearing something amusing or different. But I think decades day will be halarious.

  25. Participating in spirit week is always fun because I get to see how everyone dresses. My favorite day last spirit week was during the week of Halloween. Halloween day was the best because I got to see everyone's costumes and each were very unique. It is always lots of fun for me to dress up. This up-coming week I am really looking forward to Hawaiian Day. The reason I am so excited is because I have a Hawaiian outfit to wear. I have not even tried it on! Can't Wait!

  26. In the last Spirit Week in October, I really enjoyed Halloween Day! Many people at LOJ were really into the spirit, especially the teachers! All the Navigator teachers dressed up in Angry Birds costumes! In this coming Spirit Week in February, I am looking forward to Decades Day and Hawaiian Day. I think it will be fun to watch people dress in cool clothes from the past decades! Hawaiian Day would probably be hilarious just like Decades Day! I can not wait to see what clothes people are going to wear this Spirit Week, especially the teachers! Based on the last Spirit Week in October, I know this Spirit Week is going to be awesome!

  27. I love spirit week! Last week was so much fun, it is hard to choose my favorite day. But since I have to, I guess I would pick... bright color day! The reason for that because I own a lot of bright colored clothing and I enjoy wearing them. This upcoming week I'm most excited for lazy day. Well I guess I shouldn't say excited, because being enthusiastic requires energy. I think it's clever to have the comfiest day on a Monday, most people are lazy and tired on Mondays.
    Looking forward to everyone's clothes!

  28. I am so excited for sprit week!! Last time, in October, I had a great time dressing up with all the themes. I can't wait for lazy day, so I won't have to change. But the day I am most excited for is decades day! I can't wait to see what people wear. Then there's Valentines day. Everybody has their favorite holiday, and mine is Valentines day. I always hang out with friends, and we would put all our candy together and watch a movie.

  30. My favorite day was bright colors day because I love neons. It was awesome to walk out of class and adjust to the brighter colors! Unfortunately, all my bright clothing was in the wash so I couldn't wear anything bright. This week I am most excited for the Hawaii day because I would like to see if people are going to dress as hawaiians really dress, or if they are going to do what they think they would see in and wear all this stereotypical things in the movies and such.

  31. My favorite day was Halloween day because I got to see all the other peoples costumes and what they chose to be. I don't think I dressed up because I didn't yet know what I planned on being. Bright colors day was another favorite but when you walked in the hallways between class it was always quite blinding. I am excited to see what people wear on formal day because I noticed most times there were people dressed up during Spirit Week last time but I am wondering if people will really dress formally. I can't wait to see how people dress!
